Sunday School TeacherI served at High Plains community church in my home town as a Sunday school teacher for two summers. As a teacher I worked along side another person to provide a story, craft, lesson, and most importantly snack to 10-15 preschool students. The experience was very humbling and fun, but at the same time it could be frustrating at times controlling 15 three to five year olds.
In Bismarck I have been serving as a Sunday school teacher at Evangel Church for three school years. I started with the first through sixth grade groups on Wednesday nights but with schedule conflicts I had to move to Sunday mornings. The experience has been great! The church is much bigger so I teach groups as large as 75 students with the help and leadership of many other volunteers. I also help with the preschool at evangel as well, providing a very similar service. |
Mission Trips |
ELA Service ProjectFreshman year
During freshman year I was involved in organizing a trip to visit the North Dakota State Penitentiary. Sophomore year During sophomore year I helped to organize a time to volunteer at the Salvation Army to bake pies during the holiday season for the whole class to participate in. I also helped to wrap presents for Ministry on the Margins for a groups project as well as playing bingo Saint Vincent's Retirement Home. Junior year Junior year of ELA as a class we completed our capstone project for the course. We hosted a spaghetti dinner to raise money for Elk's Camp Grassick. With support of University of Mary faculty and the generous donations from the Bismarck/Mandan community we were able to raise over 2,000 dollars. My role in that was lead a comity to organize where to buy supplies for decoration and food, as well as securing a venue for the event. I was also a member of the ELA freshman outreach program. Senior year I am currently completing my senior year of ELA. During this year is when we plan our service trip. So far we have narrowed our project down to be national outreach trip. I am looking forward to serving in any capacity. |
I have been fortunate enough to serve on three mission trips to the same place in Fond Blanc, Haiti. While there each time the group I went with stayed and worked with orphans at their orphanage. However, each trip was different in the way we served. There is no doubt that the focus of every trip was to love on the kids as much as possible, but outside of that we also helped to rebuild a church that had been destroyed after the earthquake in 2010. Because I was able to visit the orphanage three different times I was able to see the same kids and make new connections with them, but I also was able to see the progress of the church. By far, these trips have been the most influential moments of my life and I will always treasure them.
