Mission TripsAll of the missions trips that I have been on were to Haiti, so there is a special place in my heart for the culture and the people of the country. While there I experienced for the first time not sharing the same language as another person but still being able to communicate with them. I learned a valuable lesson because of this experience and that was no matter what a persons differences are, they can still be reached. Love will go a long way when it comes to people; my heart was certainly changed due to the experience.

Diversity PracticumFor this practicum I was able to count my job as a camp councilor to earn my credits for the class. The job was acceptable because of the wide range of students that filtered through the camp. Children came form all socioeconomic backgrounds. One of the children in my group is diagnosed with autism, another lives with anxiety, a few of the students were diagnosed with learning disabilities, and one of the students has a physical disability.

Special Olympics Bowling Every Fall all the athletic programs at the University of Mary volunteer to help at the bowling tournament that the Special Olympics hosts. The athletes competing have a variety of special needs and are all so wonderful. My duty while I am there is to help facilitate the games and be an encourager and supporter. Most of the athletes do not need my help so I act as their number one fans.
Designer Genes Buddy WalkLast fall I was invited to attend the Buddy Walk with a friend. While there we helped raise awareness for Downs Syndrome by walking around the capitol building with hundreds of other people in the community. I also had the opportunity to listen to families in the area speak about the importance of raising awareness.
